‘He’s BACK!’: Tottenham fans laud Son Heung-min’s performance against Preston, with the forward showing glimpses of his old self as he fires in impressive brace during FA Cup win

Tottenham fans have been excited by Son Heung-Min’s performance against Preston in the FA Cup.

The forward scored twice as Spurs eased through their fourth-round tie at Deepdale, having struggled for form all season with just six goals to his name prior to Saturday’s match.

Supporters on social media reveled in Son’s brace, with some suggesting he is ‘back’ following his disappointing performances this year.

‘If you’re one of the people that doubted Son this season then have a word with yourself! Form is temporary! Class is permanent! He is mustard’, said one excited supporter on Twitter before full time.

‘Let the apologies match the slander’, said another. ‘Son is BACK’.

Alan Shearer sang the South Korean’s praises on commentary on BBC, repeatedly saying ‘what a strike’ as Preston goalkeeper Freddie Woodman struggled to get near a bending effort from distance.

‘Wow! what a strike that is with his left foot!’ Shearer said.

‘He tried one with his right foot and then there’s the one with his left foot in the first half, the keeper got to them. On this occasion no chance – what a goal, what a strike!

‘Again it actually comes off the defender. You can see him asking for it there and the gap opens up and you think is he too far out? No chance! Bends it into that corner keeper can see it a long way out but he’s got no chance – what a goal!’

Former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas, on punditry duty for the game, added: ‘He’s a complete professional, once you’ve acknowledged it (a lack of confidence) and you’re honest with yourself then you can work on it. That’s what he’s doing on the pitch day in, day out is trying to get back to that place and today was massive step.’

Other supporters lauded Son for showing signs of his old self.

One Twitter user said: ‘That’s the Son that I remember. World Class goal with his “weak foot” very few players in the world can put that out.’

Another added: ‘Sonny has looked very sharp and deserves his 2 goals, hopefully this is his return to the player we all love COYS’.

Tottenham will now await their fifth round opponents as they prepare for a game against Manchester City in the Premier League next weekend.
