Mikel Arteta is named Manager of the Month for November and December

Mikel Arteta completes an Arsenal clean sweep as he’s named Premier League Manager of the Month for November and December – his second of the season already – after Martin Odegaard’s player prize

  • Arsenal boss named Manager of the Month for second time this campaign
  • Picked up the award after Arsenal claimed four wins from four across months
  • Martin Odegaard has also been named Player of the Month for the period
  • First time at Arsenal have claimed both awards in eight years – since March 2015

Mikel Arteta has been named Manager of the Month for November and December after leading Arsenal to four wins from four across the two months.

The Spaniard maintained Arsenal’s impressive start to the season either side of the World Cup and has been duly rewarded with his second such award of the season.

Wins against Chelsea and Wolves prior to the Qatar tournament closed out Arsenal’s first part of the season in solid fashion before they picked up where they left off on Boxing Day against West Ham with a comprehensive 3-1 victory.

Their 4-2 win at Brighton on New Year’s Eve ended a poor run of recent results against the Seagulls.

Arteta topped a shortlist that also included Eddie Howe, Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Frank.

The former Arsenal player was handed the award in August after Arsenal started the season in blistering fashion, winning 100 per cent of their games.

Arteta won the award twice last season, in September and March. The last Arsenal manager to win it twice in a season prior to that was Arsene Wenger, all the way back in 2007-08.

Alongside Arteta, Martin Odegaard claimed his first ever Player of the Month award, becoming only the second Norwegian – after Erling Haaland – to have claimed the prize. It is the first time March 2015 that Arsenal have won both awards – with Wenger and Olivier Giroud claiming the respective prizes that month.

He has become the first Arsenal player to claim the monthly award since former captain and now Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang back in September, 2019.

Odegaard topped an eight-man shortlist that included Casemiro, Haaland, Ben Mee, Joao Palhinha, Marcus Rashford, Kieran Trippier and his team-mate Bukayo Saka.

He told the Arsenal website: ‘It feels great. I’ve said a lot of times this team has a lot of young, hungry players and we play so well with each other, so it’s just a pleasure to be here and to be part of what we’re doing now.

‘It’s a pleasure to play with them and show my qualities so I’m very happy to get this award.’
