Erling Haaland has labelled Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola as a ‘football freak’, lauding the Spaniard’s ‘complicated’ tactical approach so far this season.

Having effortlessly slotted into City’s set-up, the 22-year-old superstar has netted two hat-tricks and a total of 12 goals in just eight games, following his £51million summer move from Borussia Dortmund in July.

Despite his record-breaking start to the campaign, Haaland admitted it has taken a while to fully get to grips with his manager’s demands on the pitch.

Erling Haaland has described Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola as a ‘football freak’

Eager to draw parallels between his approach to football and Guardiola’s, Haaland told Telemundo Deportes: ‘I think he’s a kind of a bit of a football freak like me.

‘We both love football and yeah, he was a player now he’s a manager and yeah, he’s crazy about football and this is something I like because he thinks of everything in football, and how you can do things better, and this is what I like about [him].

‘It’s been good so far [settling in]. You can see with the goals and how we’ve been playing.

‘It’s a really complicated system and I’ve been going in the team and trying to get it [the tactics] as quick as I can because there is no time.

‘I cannot waste time doing anything else. So I’ve been trying to go into into the team as quick as I can. It’s a nice system, a really complicated system, but it’s really nice.’

Haaland netted twice on his Premier League debut against West Ham before grabbing an assist in Man City’s 4-0 triumph against Bournemouth.

From there, the Norwegian hitman has scored 10 in his last five matches in all competitions, celebrating consecutive hat-tricks against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest and most recently a brace against Sevilla in the Champions League.

Haaland added: ‘I love the Champions League. I have to say this. Everybody knows this and yeah, it’s a big dream for me

‘Yeah, when I wake up every morning, I listen to this song [Champions League anthem].

‘It’s my favourite competition and I always loved the Champions League.’
